Boost Your Immune System And Stay Healthy

by Monica on March 12, 2008

I was in poor mental and physical health for a few years. I was constantly on prescriptions and void of any true vitality, yet today I am thankful to be in near perfect health. My own recovery has shown me that true health is available for everyone, providing certain principles are applied and maintained in order for the body to heal and thrive. Learn about a few simple methods that I use to boost my immune system:

In addition to defending bacteria and viruses, our bodies are constantly fielding toxic chemicals from the environment we live in. Air pollution, electromagnetic waves, untested or unsafe chemicals used in manufacturing household products, pesticides, petrochemicals, toxic ingredients in vaccines etc are all processed through our bodies.

When the overall toxic load of an individual increases, it is only natural that there would be a weakening of the immune system. In addition to emotional, physical & mental stress, the human body was not designed to manage the excessive amounts of environmental pollution we are currently facing.

This is why I am so passionate about helping to create a greener world. Being “green” means caring for our body, mind, soul, our home, the environment and each other. Striving to live in a way that is as co-creative as possible. It’s the opposite of destructive.

It is so important that we take action to protect our immune systems and adopt a healthy LIFESTYLE – not diet. The good news is that our immune system truly is THE healing power from within. Treat it well and reap the rewards of good health.

Here are a few simple guidelines to boost your immune system:

  1. CUT OUT SUGAR! It is public enemy number one. I associate sugar with degeneration and disease, and that takes away my desire to indulge. Association is powerful – either in weakness or in strength. Visit this site for more great information on how sugar effects your immune system.
  2. AVOID TRANS FATS. Linked to cancer, heart disease and diabetes, there’s no question it impairs the immune system. Margarine, packaged food, fried foods, baked goods.
  3. BETA CAROTENE (Vitamin A). Think in terms of color. Eat fruits and veggies that are orange and yellow. Eat RAW wherever possible, as cooking destroys the enzymes. Sweet potatoes, pumpkin, peaches, papaya, cantaloupe, apricots peppers, carrots, squash, yams. YUM!
  4. VITAMIN C I’m a big believer in vitamin C. I eat a wide variety of fruits & veggies and when I start to feel run down, I take extra in a supplement. You’ll find vitamin C in peppers, broccoli, kiwi, strawberries, papaya, lemons, oranges, spinach, chard, kale, parsley etc
  5. SELENIUM. Cook with onions and garlic as these are essential for improving the immune system and are anti-inflammatories.
  6. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR. If you have not discovered the benefits of apple cider vinegar I encourage you to try it. Not only is it excellent for the skin and hair, it helps the liver process toxins and will boost your energy. 1-3 tbs in a glass of water every day. The vinegar must have “the mother’ in it (I use Bragg)
  7. MULTI VITAMIN/MINERAL I used to be a purist, until I actually felt the difference a high quality supplement makes. B vitamins are especially helpful in helping the body deal with stress.
  8. BE POSITIVE! The body does not know the difference between an image in the mind and the real thing and so we literally create what we think about most. As a FORMER pessimist, I know what a difference a good mindset has had on my health. Be committed to developing an optimistic perspective.

I encourage you to use these simple guidelines to boost your immune system to enhance your healing power and be as healthy as you can be! Your number one defense against any disease is your immune system, so it makes sense to do what you can to boost your immune system. Your health is dependent on your immune system, it is not determined by external forces waiting to bait the next victim as traditional germ theory might suggest.
