Giveaway: Baby Organic USDA Skin Care

by Monica on April 20, 2009

babymoon-giveaways

I’ve been using the Natures Paradise “Baby Organic” skin care line on Liv’s skin for a few months. After 2 years of trying everything under the sun (considered safe) I have finally settled on 3 brands.

The Natures Paradise “Baby Organics” line is one of the very few companies who have taken the initiative to capture 100% USDA Certified Organic seal. A product that is USDA Certified Organic means that it is the safest product you can buy. It is not made with any chemical or synthetic ingredients.

Natures Paradise recommends:  When you buy product, look for: “Certified Organic by *****agency.”  The certifying Agency must ALWAYS be printed on the back according to regulations. If a product claiming to be “organic” does not have a certifier’s name, then this product has NOT been certified or inspected by the USDA.

The moisturizing lotion has been great for us. It is very rich and one of the only products I have found that keeps her skin soft and nourished through the next day or two. I would say it’s a very good choice for any child that has dry skin or eczema. (We also added Omega-3′s to Liv’s diet with great success)

The other product I love is their hair & body wash. With most brands I’ve tried, I find they leave her hair tangled and scalp dry. This wash is definitely the most moisturizing I’ve found so far.

The Baby Organic line comes in unscented or coconut. They boast: No Pesticides, No Parabens, No Artificial Ingredients, No Synthetic Preservatives, No GMO’s, No Fragrance, No Propylene Glycol, No Phthalates, No Sulfates, No DEA, No Nuts, No Animal Products

My gut reaction is that there ABSOLUTELY needs to be more regulation…anyone can sell anything right now. On the other hand, being a mom has taught me that, ultimately, it’s my responsibility to keep my kids safe. No one–not the manufacturers, not the government, not my friends–is in a better position than me to do that. So, I read labels–even on the stuff that’s already certified.

I Twittered about this giveaway and I posted it at http://www.ForMyKidsOnline.com/free_stuff.htm

Oh gosh, absolutely there needs to be more regulation!!! I’m always checking the Cosmetics Database and it can be so hard to find nontoxic baby items. I’m even in the middle of a series on my blog about toxic crib mattresses. I have zero trust in our FDA when it comes to our health.

Sherri April 20, 2009 at 7:10 pm

I so do NOT trust the FDA’s guidelines as they seem to suddenly realize after the fact that something was not appropriate for use on babies. I would feel much better with stronger regulations, especially for baby products.

Sherris last blog post..What are you going to do with all this stuff!?

CushytOOsh April 20, 2009 at 7:53 pm

You have got to be kidding me. FDA looking out for our best interest???????????????? 10 years AFTER a product has been out and they’ve had reports of problems and even death do they decide to take it off the market. ECZEMA cream caused my friends 7 year old boy to get LEUKEMIA!! Yes they even post that it causes cancer and do you think they’d ban the sale of it!!?? HECK NO!! Food dyes!! Europe banned them in their food because it’s causing their children harm – what US children are guinea pigs, lab rats??? It’s pretty bad when 80% of what’s on the grocery shelves is unhealthy full of dyes, artificial coloring, sweeteners, corn syrup and sooo on!! Moms of America STAND UP FOR OUR CHILDREN!! Because the FDA don’t give a rats A_ _. No wonder why are children are sicker today then ever, Autism, ADD, you name it! Its all relevant!

PsychMamma April 21, 2009 at 9:12 am

DEFINITELY feel that baby products should have more/better regulation, and definitely do NOT trust the FDA’s current guidelines for product safety.

Thanks for the chance to enter such a great giveaway!

Definitely!!! I was so appaulled when my son was born that there’s NOT more regulation on these things!

iMommy April 21, 2009 at 5:06 pm

I guess I don’t know enough about the FDA guidelines in order to answer that properly. This post has me thinking about it though — I’ll have to do a little research.

OK….I don’t trust the FDA….AT ALL. They don’t serve the people, they serve corporations and chemical manufacturers. Period. It takes a lot of research to get to the bottom of health and safety, and moms do it better than the FDA. Great blog! I’ve subscribed!

I’ve always been skeptical of authority, and the FDA is no exception. Especially since they’ve overlooked so many harmful things for years, like BPA in food packaging and the like. Call me a cynic, but I really thing that the FDA is either too big, too underfunded, or just paid off by large corporations to keep up with testing all of the things that need testing. I’d love to see more stringent guidelines for organic labeling.

i wish there better regulations for all health and beauty products, especially baby products. FDA should do a better job than this.

April April 23, 2009 at 7:51 am

Organic is the only thing that should be used on children.

Dan April 23, 2009 at 11:37 am

more regulation

beth shepherd April 23, 2009 at 12:03 pm

Elaine R April 23, 2009 at 2:42 pm

I know there needs to be more regulations but for now I go with the FDA guidelines.

Sandra Melnick April 23, 2009 at 3:10 pm

I do not trust the FDA. Seen too many stories about them. I guess thet do the best they can but I’m still doubtful.

vanessa April 23, 2009 at 3:48 pm

I believe there are the bare minimum regulations. What is so wrong with natural ingredients. I would rather pay a little more money to have a peace of mind. If feel like the FDA has failed a lot of people. I wish it could be like years ago when you could trust what you put on and in your body.

Linda Lansford April 23, 2009 at 4:32 pm

I think there are enough regulations

Stefanie Hartman April 23, 2009 at 4:54 pm

Yes. I would like the products I use on my baby to be the utmost highest standards and quality. It would be nice to think I could trust in these products. That’s why I like natural products with pure ingredients. Even these though, I hope there’s standards of quality that must be met to make sure it is safe for my most precious gift, my baby. Blessings, Stefanie fhartman@frontiernet.net

I DEFINITELY feel that there need to be more and better regulations for ALL skin products but especially ones for babes!

In my family sensitive skin is a given and we’ve had more than a couple of allergic reactions!

Thanks

I don’t trust the FDA. They allow rat poison and rocket fuel in baby formula. They say it’s too small of an amount to cause harm. I’m very careful to make sure my babies grooming products are safe. If it’s full of lab created chemicals, like the Super Market brands, I don’t buy it.

kelly April 24, 2009 at 4:20 am

There needs to be more the FDA has a long way to go !!

Melissa Barnes April 24, 2009 at 5:31 am

I think there needs to me more regulation with baby care products!! Some of the chemicles that are in the lotions and even well name baby products are possible cancer causing agents an example would be mineral oil!!! there needs to be much higher standards on what is allowed to make it to the shelf on products for baby!

Melissa Allen April 24, 2009 at 7:05 am

I just stumbled across your site and I love it. There is a lot of great information on here. My 6 month old baby has had a terrrible time with eczema and gas and you’ve encouraged me to look closer at my diet to see if I’m transferring any potentiol irritants to him through my milk. I stopped dairy for 2 weeks and didn’t see a difference but I’m going to do it again and try it longer. The line your giving away looks fabulous. I’ve been so disappointed in a lot of lines that claim to be all natural but then have fragrance or even parabens on their ingredient list! The FDA’s standards are so much lower then what we demand for our babies so I take it upon myself to determine what is safe for my baby. Thanks for all the great info!

There should be another committee set up to regulate and be a watchdog over the FDA.

Autumn H. April 24, 2009 at 11:33 pm

I think they need more regulations – there is so much nasty stuff in kids products, it’s scary!

Vicki Wurgler April 25, 2009 at 9:38 am

Yes – I guess I do not know much about the subject-It was interesting about the Certified Organic seal

Gabriel J. April 25, 2009 at 1:26 pm

We need more regulation from the FDA.

Heather M April 25, 2009 at 2:17 pm

They need more regulations! they’re a lot of Chemicals in Children and babies products that don’t need to be there!! Thanks

Christie April 25, 2009 at 4:20 pm

I think we are being legislated far too much already. It is up to consumers to be knowledgeable about what they use. The FDA MUST be involved but in the end, people must be responsible for themselves. What I would like to see is far, far more restriction of products coming into this country from China, for adults and ESPECIALLY for children. They seemingly have NO regard for safety or even honesty. Buy American and buy organic.

Susan C April 25, 2009 at 6:10 pm

The government just went so crazy with their new safety laws for children’s products that they even outlawed selling such products as untested handmade mittens. They put a lot of small companies out of business.I don’t think we need more regulation, just more information about what is safe.

Vicky Boackle April 25, 2009 at 6:47 pm

there probably needs to be some more regulation.

Pamela S April 25, 2009 at 9:05 pm

For the most part I trust the government regulators but I do think the standards for small children should be more stringent than for adults.

christopher h April 26, 2009 at 12:37 am

oh, no, we don’t need more regulation

Sarah April 26, 2009 at 7:10 am

I don’t think we need more regulations. The FDA can’t even enforce the ones they currently have on the books. And then they come up with silly ideas like the FDA Globalization Act that could put small, organic cosmetics producers out of business entirely. I think the answer lies with the consumer to do some research and try to buy handmade products from PEOPLE they can trust, bypassing the giant corporations and governmental entities altogether.

Terry C April 26, 2009 at 2:04 pm

Yes I think there needs to be more regulation.

YES I think there needs to be more regulation for baby skin care products .. ABSOLUTELY!!

autie April 26, 2009 at 6:44 pm

I trust the FDA. I think many of these companies who claim the FDA is corrupt just really want to sell their own products better by capitalizing on fear.

There needs to be more regulation! Why do they sell things that are clearly toxic? Not only that but hospitals use products that I don’t want touching my babies! It is horrible.

Melanie April 26, 2009 at 10:51 pm

I think its always good to be a little safe.
I trust the FDA, but noone is perfect, and sometimes
harmful products can slip through the cracks.

Donna Johnson April 27, 2009 at 1:36 am

I really do not trust the FDA very much, I believe there needs to be much stricter regulations when it comes to anything involving products for children.

Janet April 27, 2009 at 5:13 am

I think someone needs to make sure its safe :)
