Tote It With Eco Style

Winner declared!! Go to the bottom of the post!

As you may know, I have a particular aversion to plastic and no  matter how hard I try, the darn stuff is so difficult to keep out of my life! It actually took me nearly 8 months to buy a suitable diaper bag (don’t ask me how I managed!) because I wanted to find a cool bag that was one part diaper, two parts hip mamma and sans that nasty PVC. You know what I mean, eco stylish post natal fashion?

Anyhow, all this week I have been outfitted with a great new bag to tote mine and Olivia’s stuff around. These stylish bags appeal to my inner conscience and eco-style sense.

The Ecogear bags are made of organically grown cotton canvas and rope materials, with non-toxic dyes, sustainable wood and organically grown accessories. How great is that! They are even named for endangered animals and manufactured through planet friendly practices. All week, I have had the sense of satisfaction that my new bag represents an idea that companies like Ecogear are doing their best to provide us with eco options so we don’t have to settle for the a lifelong battle with plastic and pvc products.

Ecogear also has an Ecotech line for backpacks and laptop bags that uses an alternative to PVC that has virtually no risk to the environment or human health. Apparently many normally manufactured bags and backpacks do contain chemical-emitting PVC, chlorine, dioxin, phthalates or heavy metals, so I was pleased to see that you can still have all the benefits of a school backpack without carrying a toxic load of health risks. They also create H2O and CO2 when burned for minimal impact upon disposal (although why dispose when you can give it away?)

I’m going to use my new Coho messenger bag as a daily diaper/handbag because it’s roomy, washable and tough. There’s roomy internal organizer pockets, dual side pockets for our stainless steel water bottles and adjustable shoulder straps. I loved the green color of my bag (actually looks more sage in person than in the pic) and here is the best part: This messenger bag is only $24.99! I do not know when I have last found a great bag for this price, let alone an eco-bag.

If you are looking for a new bag, do me a favor and let Ecogear know you appreciate the love and energy they have put into creating environmentally conscious products for us by grabbing a fun & stylish bag for yourself!

WIN IT: Since I’ve enjoyed my new Coho bag so much, Molly from Ecogear and I thought it would be fun to give away a Coho AND an adorable pink Panda backpack so that the little eco-diva in your life can tote the eco message as well. Two great bags to one lucky winner!

All you have to do to be entered is head on over to Ecogear and check out their line of great green bags and then leave me a comment below telling me which line of bags you like the best? Winner will be picked at random. Contest closes August 7th at midnight. Open to residents of USA only. One entry per house/email/person. I’ll announce a winner right here on August 8th so bookmark this page!

Please note** comments that do not follow the entry directions will be deleted!

This was fun! I love giving you cool gifts, anybody else want to give something away?

Using Random.org, the WINNER of the two bags is……COMMENT#29 – Teri!! I’ve sent you an email.

Thank you to all of you who entered, there will be more fun giveaways soon, so dont forget to add healthy Green Moms to your RSS, and stay up to date with all the latest!

Kristin SG July 31, 2008 at 6:24 pm

What lovely bags! And I just recently jumped on the “eco friendly” wagon…no plastic bags, only canvas when I grocery shop, recycling whenever possible, using rechargable batteries.
I would be proud to carry one of these bags, and let everyone I care about know just where I won it!

Christy Hickman July 31, 2008 at 6:34 pm

I just love the Ecozoo line. That elephant is just the cutest thing. These are really cute and unlike anything I have seen other places. Thanks for the chance to win such a great prize.

Jenn S. July 31, 2008 at 6:37 pm

Donna Kozar July 31, 2008 at 7:15 pm

The ECOZOO line is cute.

Rhonda July 31, 2008 at 7:18 pm

I have to say, the kids bags..they look very mature but fun at the same time. It’s so hard to find a good bag that holds up to the rough treatment kids give them, even harder to find one that is eco-friendly. :)

Nanette Olson July 31, 2008 at 7:25 pm

I really like the Lynx in brown.

Jean July 31, 2008 at 7:25 pm

I heart the puppy bag!

Auriette July 31, 2008 at 9:13 pm

It’s tough to choose one favorite. I guess I’ll have to go with the Recycle line, because I love products that keep waste out of the landfill. The designs in the Genus line are awesome, too. I’d love to have one of these bags for my next vacation!

JANET LINDSEY July 31, 2008 at 9:35 pm

i like the lynx style.

Ashley Cotten July 31, 2008 at 9:36 pm

I love Coho as a diaper bag (being that I have 3 kids and ALWAYS toting tons of things whenever I leave the house.) And I could totally recomend the Ecozoo bags to all my friends and family with kids. The BigHorn would be something I would buy for each member of my family for a 72 hour emergency kit. Then the Panda would make a perfect backpack for our first grader, so it’s REALLY hard to choose from.

Noelle July 31, 2008 at 10:29 pm

Thanks for the contest!
I love the Lifestyles line…
Toss up with COHO or Chinook though…

The chinook looks great. Of course my daughter would go bananas over the little pink backpack.

Leona August 1, 2008 at 4:54 am

i love the kids line, but for myself! i personally try to carry around as little as possible so not to bog myself down, so the smaller sizes make it easier for me not to over-fill the bag :)

Evelyn Lim | Attraction Mind Map August 1, 2008 at 5:46 am

The bags sure look good. Too bad I’m not a US resident :-(

I like the ecozoo (pig) for my girls! Love the fact that its safer for them to use. For myself being a college girl with kids at home I prefer the ecogear line myself. I could use this for camping and school.

I like the ecozoo bags. Not only would they be great for traveling with my kids (I let them bring a bag of ‘goodies’ in the car to keep them entertained), but it’d be great for our walks and hikes, and for our shopping trips. They’re so proud of themselves when they can carry their own bags.

kimberly August 1, 2008 at 11:49 pm

I love the lifetstyle line of bags the best.

Jennifer Walker August 2, 2008 at 5:05 am

the Snow Leopard backpack

• constructed of PVC-free 1680D ballistic nylon & 300D ripstop

• non-toxic dyes

• soft-lined valuables pouch

• MP3 player pouch with port

• ergo-padded shoulder straps

• internal organizer pockets

I really love the red, black and white one.

I love the Lifestyle line – especially the Lynx with its snazzy stripes! They’re all fab though! Thanks for a great link. I’m always on the lookout for eco-friendly bags and am usually disappointed in the style sacrifice. These are definitely an exception.
